Peter Lawrence (1882–1970) was born in England and arrived in Australia in 1922. He became a student of Harold Cazneaux, and by 1925 had been invited to join the Sydney camera Circle, an exclusive, peer-elected club of photographers working in Sydney in the 1920s. Lawrence visited England between 1926 and 1927, and when he returned to Australia in 1928 was elected associate of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. Lawrence was a well-respected pictorialist photographer. He was commended for his depictions of the Australian outback and showed in numerous international exhibitions. He returned to England permanently in 1947.
