Robert Owen was born in Sydney in 1937 and studied sculpture at the National Art School, graduating in 1962. He spent time in Greece and London between 1963 and 1975 and has lived in Melbourne since 1988. Owen’s extensive artistic practice incorporates a range of media, including sculpture, painting and photography. His work has been widely exhibited in Australia and overseas, including at the 1978 Venice Biennale. Owen’s works are held each of the major public collections in Australia and in international collections including the British Museum, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, Japan.
