Patricia Piccinini (1965–) was born in Siera Leone and arrived in Australia in 1972. She completed a Bachelor of Arts (Painting) at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1991. Piccinini is now one of Australia’s most recognised contemporary artists and her practice incorporates a wide range of media. Since the early 1990s, she has exhibited her work widely in Australia and overseas, including representing Australia at the Venice Biennale in 2003. Her work has consistently explored ideas of what is ‘natural’ in the digital world, questioning the impact of science and technology on life and the human form.
