Martin Smith (1972–) is a Brisbane-based photographer. He graduated with honours in visual art in 2000 and has been exhibiting his work widely since 1998. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University where he also lectures in photography. His practice revolves around the integration of photography and text. He uses photographs that have been recovered from family albums or personal archives and incorporates texts by cutting letters out of the photographs or writing over the top of them. The texts, which have no obvious relationship with the content of the photographs, recall personal memories or lyrics from popular songs.
