David Stephenson (1955–) was born in the United States of America. He studied Fine Art at the University of Colorado and the University of New Mexico before moving to Australia in 1982 to take up a teaching position at the University of Tasmania where he continues to work. He completed his PhD in Fine Art at the University of Tasmania in 2001. Stephenson is a significant photographer with a national and international reputation for his highly formal studies of landscape and the sublime. He has maintained an active national and international exhibition profile since 1978 and his works are held in important collections in Australia and overseas.
