Julie Davies (b. 1959, Australia) and Alex Rizkala (b. 1950, Egypt; arr. Australia 1966) are Melbourne-based artists who produce work collaboratively and as individuals. Davies’s own practice is primarily photographic, while Rizkala’s focus is on sculpture and installation. Their collaborations tend to revolve around a mutual interest in found objects and archives, but they also draw on their shared experiences living and travelling together as a couple. Both artists were trained at art schools in Melbourne and have been prominent participants in Melbourne’s artist-run gallery network since the early 1990s.
