Jon Rhodes was born in Wagga Wagga, NSW, in 1947 and grew up in Brisbane. Rhodes moved to Sydney in 1968 and worked as a photographer at the University of New South Wales until 1971 before joining Film Australia to work in documentary cinematography. He worked in Australia, Papua New Guinea and India until 1977 when he left Film Australia to concentrate on still photography. Rhodes’s work is often constructed of a series of images arranged in sequences, allowing him to record movement and the passing of time. Rhodes was awarded the Australian National University HC Coombs Creative Arts Fellowship in 2006. His work is represented in most Australian public collections as well as a selection of significant private and institutional collections overseas.
