Michael Cook

Michael Cook (b. 1968 Australia) is an Indigenous Australian whose cultural heritage is with the Bidjara people of south-west Queensland. Based in Brisbane, Cook worked in commercial photography labs and ran his own wedding and fashion studio before pursuing an artistic career. His artistic work retains the highly stylised aesthetic of commercial glamour photography, which he uses to explore themes of indigenous identity and colonial history.

MAPh acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong People, and recognises their continuing connection to the land and waterways.

We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and extend this to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
