Katthy Cavaliere (1972–2012) was born in Tuscany, Italy in 1972 and migrated to Australia with her family in 1976. She grew up in Sydney and studied at College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, graduating in 1997 with a Master of Art (Photomedia). She began exhibiting her work in 1993 and became known for her performance installations inspired by the everyday. She also worked with photography, video and drawing. In 2001 she studied in Italy with the performance artist Marina Abramovic, whose work Cavaliere admired. Her works were exhibited widely, including at the Italian Pavilion at the 2011 Venice Biennale. Cavaliere passed away in January 2012.
