Juan Davila (b. 1946, Chile; arr. Australia 1974) received his artistic training at the Fine Arts School of the University of Chile (1970–72) before migrating to Melbourne where he still resides. Davila came to prominence in the early 1980s as part of a generation of artists who embraced postmodern theories of art. He is primarily a painter but has worked in various media including photography. Photomechanical reproduction and repetition in mass media also informs the postmodern style of his practice more generally.
