Alison Fraser is currently Manager of Events and Community Engagement in Veterans Affairs, Department of Premier and Cabinet (VIC). She has a long history of arts and event management and has also been an art teacher, gallery director and art school administrator. The talk will discuss how images from 100 years ago connect us today with the history of this era and who we were then.

Alison says "The Anzac Centenary, to commemorate the First World War, is rightly a period of remembering history, the battlefields, the strategy, the complicated set of relationships that led to the war in the first place, the terrible defeats, the ruin of cities and towns, and the loss of life. 

But it was also the war of the truly portable camera - often made by Kodak. Our collecting institutions are full of photographs, so many of them tiny black and white images, taken by amateur photographers. Like the diaries and letters I have also been reading, they are the last authentic voice of those who lived through one of the most epic and destructive events in history.

So this will be a personal talk about what I have found to be intriguing in working on this major and in many ways unusual project, including (for those who have been watching Anzac Girls) an image of the real Alice Ross-King!
