Sophia Cai is an emerging curator and arts writer with a particular interest in Asian art history as well as craft-based contemporary art practices. She completed a Masters with Distinction in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London in 2014, and previously graduated from the Australian National University with a First-Class Honours degree in Art History and Curatorship. As an independent curator Sophia has worked on a number of projects and exhibitions. These include ‘Secret Garden’ at Schoolhouse Studios with Caitlin Shearer in 2015, the recent ‘PLAYFUL’ exhibition and public programs for National Youth Week at City Library Gallery, and a forthcoming solo exhibition of Pixy Yijun Liao at Firstdraft in Sydney.
Dr Claire Roberts is an historian of Chinese art and a curator. She is Associate Professor, Art History and ARC Future Fellow in the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne. She has published widely on Chinese art and visual and material culture, and curated numerous exhibitions. She was Curator at the Museum of Chinese-Australian History, Melbourne (1986-88) and Senior Curator of Asian Arts at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney (1988-2010), before undertaking her PhD in the Research School of Pacific and Asian History at ANU (2006). Her current ARC Future Fellowship project focuses on the international context of modern and contemporary Chinese art.
Carol Yinghua Lu lives in Beijing. She is a PhD scholar in art history at the University of Melbourne. She is a contributing editor at Frieze and is on the advisory board of The Exhibitionist. Lu was on the jury for the Golden Lion Award at the 2011 Venice Biennale. She also served as co-artistic director of the 2012 Gwangju Biennale and co-curator of the 7th Shenzhen Sculpture Biennale in 2012. From 2012 to 2015, she was the artistic director and chief curator of OCAT Shenzhen. Lu was the first visiting fellow in the Asia-Pacific Fellowship program at the Tate Research Centre in 2013.
Pixy Liao is an artist who currently resides in Brooklyn who was born and raised in Shanghai, China. She is a recipient of NYFA Fellowship, En Foco's New Works Fellowship and LensCulture Exposure Awards, etc. She has done artist residencies at Light Work, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Center for Photography at Woodstock, and Camera Club of New York.Liao’s photographs have been exhibited internationally, including Flower Gallery (NY), He Xiangning Art Museum (China), VT Artsalon (Taiwan), Kips Gallery (Korea), The Running Horse Contemporary Art Space (Lebanon), Format (UK), Noorderlicht (Netherland). Liao holds a MFA in photography from University of Memphis.
