Join Elizabeth Gertsakis and MGA Associate Curator Gareth Syvret as they discuss Gertsakis's 1987 series Innocent reading for origin, which combines personal archival photographs with Gertsakis's writing. Moving beyond captions, these descriptions invite the viewer to interrogate what they are seeing and to experience the gaps of knowledge that can exist in migrant stories, memory and family histories.

This will be the first time that images from Innocent reading for origin have been shown at MGA since they were acquired in 1994. The exhibition Dressing up: clothing and camera, is Syvret's inaugural exhibition for MGA which draws on the MGA Collection and connects images that combine dress, costume and photography.

MAPh acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong People, and recognises their continuing connection to the land and waterways.

We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and extend this to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
