Ian Bock will give a presentation on the history of manipulated images looking at masters such as Oscar Rejlander, Chin-San Long, Andreas Feininger, Escher, Jerry Uelsmann and Salvador Dali as well as iconic advertising campaigns. Ian will also explore how creative techniques can be achieved in the studio without the use of Photoshop.
Ian started Photography at the age of 14 with a Box Brownie and developed its film on the kitchen table. He hasn't put down the camera since! He joined the Preston Camera Club in 1957 after completing a degree in Chemical Engineering.
After marrying Diana and moving to Mt. Waverley, he joined Southern Suburbs Camera Club and in 1966 joined Melbourne Camera Club where he was Treasurer (12 years) and President (8 years).
He is a member of Australian Photographic Society, the Australian Portfolio Photographic Society and the Australian Photographic Collectors Society and a life member of Melbourne Camera Club.
He was VAPS president for two years and treasurer for five years, He has been a camera club judge and lecturer for many years. He was awarded SSVAPS, SSAPS and an OAM for services to photographic and other organisations in 2014.
He now concentrates on digital, both PDI and prints, AVs and now photobooks. He is interested in most areas of photography but especially in the manipulated image (altered reality) and currently talks on Photobooks, the history of photography and the history of the manipulated image.
