Hear MGA Director Anouska Phizacklea in conversation with Bowness finalists Ali Tahayori and Justine Varga, as they discuss the unique, alternative photographic processes that define their works.
Wednesday 6.30 – 7.30pm
ONLINE EVENT
Ali Tahayori use elements of history in his works. Tahyori creates works that are neither representational nor abstract, exploring the aesthetic quality of deterioration and decay. He investigates external forces that contaminate the body of the imagery and destroy its content.
Justine Varga reasserts the photograph as a ‘trace of the world’. Her negatives are rubbed, scratched, and stained surfaces that have been exposed to today’s disintegrating social and ecological climate. These images become a mix of personal inscription and environmental trace.
Along with Anouska Phizacklea, the artists will discuss the influences and processes that are unique to their photographic practice.
