Join us at the gallery to hear MGA Director Anouska Phizacklea in conversation with Bowness finalists Paula Mahoney, Meredith O’Shea and Ruiqi Qiu.
Thursday 6.30 – 7.30pm
MGA Director Anouska Phizacklea discusses the effect of lockdown in the development of the photographs submitted for the Bowness Photography Prize by Paula Mahoney, Meredith O’Shea and Ruiqi Qiu.
These three photographers worked with close family, friends or them self as the subject to create intimate, quiet imagery. In one case the result is an image that reflects on the loss of a family member, another of someone at ease with the world, and finally of someone claiming their identity.
Mahoney, O’Shea and Qiu will be discussing how, as artists, they know when the image has the right feeling or the emotion they were aiming for. How has working closely with family and friends during lockdown impacted the process, mood or even subject matter of their artistic practice?
This event will also coincide with the MGA Shop Christmas shopping night between 5-8pm.
So come have a drink, listen to inspired conversations and get your Christmas shopping done!
