In this exclusive photographic workshop we will explore the process of hand-colouring black-and-white (or monochromatic) photographs.
During this three hour workshop participants will learn about historical and contemporary hand-colouring techniques as well as begin hand-colouring their own fine art photographs.
Drawing inspiration from the historical works in our current exhibition Visions of India: from the colonial to the contemporary and works from MGA’s collection, participants will experiment with their own unique colouring style.
MGA will provide various archival colouring pigments that will achieve different outcomes and effects as well as demonstrate different application techniques.
Participants should bring their own printed photographs for colouring. Gelatin silver prints or pigment ink-jet prints on durable paper-stock are recommended (having a few small prints on different papers is ideal for experimentation). You may also bring any alternative photographic prints such as cyanotypes, salt prints, albumen prints etc. We will provide some generic photographs for participants to test colouring techniques on.
*If you do not know where to get your works printed, feel free to contact us for assistance once you have booked your place in the workshop.
