Join us online on Thursday evening for an in-depth discussion with artist and writer Alana Hunt, in conversation with MGA Senior Curator Pippa Milne.
Hunt will be speaking to her long-standing relationship with South Asia, which took root in New Delhi through a five-month residency with the Sarai Program, that led to a Masters degree at Jawaharlal Nehru University. She has retained a friendship and ongoing engagement with Kashmir for more than a decade.
Themes explored throughout the talk include interdisciplinarity, friendship, a pronounced fluidity between cultural practices and politics, and the art-world not being a singular space; but many. Hunt will also discuss how different ways of understanding modernity, nation-states, and colonisation have shaped her work both in South Asia and Australia.
Alana Hunt is an artist and writer who lives on Miriwoong country in the north-west of Australia. This and her long-standing relationship with South Asia – and with Kashmir in particular – shapes her engagement with the violence that results from the fragility of nations and the aspirations and failures of colonial dreams.
Her diverse practice is shaped by a commitment to sensitively challenge ideas and histories in the public sphere and the social space between people.
