Taking advantage of winter light | Photowalk with Norm Hanson

Winter is a good time for photographers to take advantage of the lower sun and softer, angled light. Melbourne’s weather is notorious for its changeability: mid-winter can be bright – with strong, long shadows that add extra depth to your photographs – or dark and brooding. Even “bad” weather can create drama. It’s a great time to change your viewpoint to capture more moody or abstract images. Rug-up for this photowalk session and be prepared to explore the changeable light as a way to gain a different view of the world.

This is event will go ahead in most weather conditions, but will be postponed if deemed unsafe for participants.
Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for walking in the weather present on the day.

Accessibility...

The route around Jells Park is largely asphalted, but not all of the track is wheelchair friendly (it can be muddy and uneven in places). There are always routes we can take to accommodate everyone’s needs. Please let us know if you have any accessibility requests. Also note that close up photography might mean getting 'up close' to the ground or other low surface, but it's totally up to you!

About Norm...

Norm Hanson is a retired geologist, a natural philosopher at heart and a serious photographer, artist and cartoonist.

Norm is an active blogger (Wandering in The Light) on things they didn’t tell you about digital photography. He has been a moderator for the VIC/TAS thread of the Australian Photographers on Flickr. He is a member of the Victorian Artist Society, the Pastel Society of Victoria Gallery and Watercolour Society of Victoria.

Norm has had solo exhibitions at Meniyan Art Gallery, Ramp Gallery – MAPh (The Monash Gallery of Art), Monash Creative Spaces, Gekco Studio Gallery at Fish Creek and Highway Gallery, Mt.Waverley. He has also participated in a number of Melbourne and South Gippsland Art & Photography shows, including groups shows at the VAS Gallery & AGRA. His works have also been included in on-line shows in London & New York.

Norm works in a broad range of media including painting, in pencil, pen, pastel, watercolours & acrylic, photography, collages & mosaics and rock art.

MAPh acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong People, and recognises their continuing connection to the land and waterways.

We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and extend this to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
