Grace Wood is a Naarm/Melbourne based artist whose practice involves questioning the ownership and authorship of images removed from their original contexts. Fascinated by the lifecycle of images, from their generation and discovery to their alteration, dispersion, and eventual discard, Wood mines digital, institutional and personal image archives to generate idiosyncratic visual narratives.

For Built photography, Wood engaged with the MAPh collection, reinterpreting iconic photographic artworks utilising AI algorithms and textual prompts. Her initial collage using selected artworks was transformed through successive iterations as each image was manipulated, replaced or covered up. The resulting work, Afterimage, is a multifaceted exploration of the intersection between traditional photography, artificial intelligence, and the evolving nature of artistic creation in the digital age.

Join Grace in this workshop to:

• Discover the history and techniques of collage
• Create an analogue collage from found imagery
• Create a digital collage from an analogue collage
• Prepare an image for print outputs

Bring your own laptop/phone/tablet with image software such as Photoshop/Photoshop Elements for digital collage. (If you don’t have access to these, we will work on different ways of developing and presenting your analogue collage.)
