500 strong: Women’s health forum with guest speakers Dr Martha Hickey and Dr Lydia Brown
Learn about the latest research in menopause and mental health, ask questions in a safe and supporting space, and dismantle some of the limiting beliefs and perceptions placed on older women. Hear from the experts on menopause, positive ageing and well-being.
Dr Martha Hickey is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Melbourne, and Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Sciences at Yale University, CT. She is in active clinical practice with a research expertise in menstrual disorders and menopause. 500 strong grew from the Flesh after fifty project, conceived by Hickey in 2020 to challenge negative assumptions about ageing women.
Dr Lydia Brown is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at The University of Melbourne. Her research focuses on understanding and enhancing well-being during the menopause transition, and in the second half of life more generally. She is passionate about improving societal views of ageing. Her work has been featured in media outlets internationally, including Reuters Health and The Washington Post.
Photographer Ponch Hawkes and curator Jane Scott will introduce the program with insights into the exhibition 500 Strong and the experience of working with so many courageous, creative women.
