Artist statement:
In my piece entitled 'Liminal', two images are combined together to explore the transcendence of a liminal space. The theme for our final projects this year was movement, thus I investigated how liminality creates stillness in movement as it is a crossroad in the process of activity. Liminal spaces are places that do not exist for their individual existence yet for the movements that take place before or after them, creating an altered reality. I layered an image I took of a vacant park at night over an empty train station at dusk, symbolising the transitional period of a liminal space. In order to create a 3D version of the combined images, I printed the individual images onto transparent sheets and then layered the sheets onto a lightbox. The lightbox enhanced the eerie stillness of the combined images, creating an uncomfortable sense of tranquility.
