Artist statement:

These cropped images reveal the extreme positions demonstrated by dancers, with an insight to the negative effects this can have on the dancers body. I cropped the feet out of some of the dance photos and replaced them with close ups of blistered and calloused feet. This communicates the painful physical effects of dance on the body. Engaging a combination of strength and beauty, I wanted to show the extreme positions to highlight the dancers athleticism that is captivating and entrancing to view. This amount of flexibility and athleticism is often expected of dancers and can often have a significant negative physical effect.
