Artist statement: Continuing my research into the material condition of light sensitivity and darkroom haptic constructions, the abstracted forms of ‘Piloting #1–#4’present my recent investigations into the tin-type process.
The artworks are portraits of a tactile knowing and crafting of the image from the raw components to the sensitised plate. Each non-figurative construction reveals permutations of an engagement between the wet-plate process, my body, light and objects. ‘Piloting #1–#4’is a contemporary interpretation of photography that explores the notion of ‘photographic time’ by offering a disjointed time lapse, blending the ideas of Constructivism with a commercially superseded process.
