‘Unpredictability of being’ presents existence through the eyes of derealisation. Each image depicts an isolated person in a dissociative state, such as floating and hunched over. The poem accompanying my images is from the perspective of derealisation. By personalising an otherwise depersonalised topic, it created an evasive quality, as well as a sense of unease. My use of photography is one that captures a moment in time, which I achieved by staging the models to appear surreal, paying careful attention to their facial expressions, and also the ways that their bodies can communicate. My intention was for the works, including the poem, to be viewed as a series that moves in and out of moments of feeling and being, whilst being able to be interpreted individually by the viewer.
