Artist statement: ‘Untitled’ responds to a commonly shared and pervasive sense of dread that characterises life in our present times, evoking the sense of anxiety that permeates our contemporary consciousness.
Questioning the effects of globalisation, in particular the impact of geo-politics and the recent economic crisis, ‘Untitled’ responds to the potential for societal disconnect and fragmentation. Increased individualism can result in personal disorientation and confusion, resulting in a sense of fear for who we are and whom we want to become.
‘Untitled’ draws upon the influence of cinema, playing with lighting, location scouting, and a subtle, yet implied narrative. The use of lightboxes further emphasises the cinematic quality of the work, combined with the ambiguous narratives, establishing a moment of expectation.
