Artist statement: Besufiked and his mother sit calmly and proudly in unison, identically posed facing to camera without direction, within their tiny colourful living space. The shoot is fast, to
appease neighbours, unhappy with the presence of outsiders with cameras.

This portrait was taken in the outer regions of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of a larger
series documenting mothers and children who are attending the Australian-funded NGO, School of St Yared.
