Artist statement: This diptych was made on Bunurong/Boon Wurrung country, at the edge of Westernport Bay in 2022. I was thinking about the colonial history of the site (evidenced in the remnant piers of a jetty), and the pre-invasion histories. The horizon is the visible constant, and I wanted to make two photographs that depict an observation from two vantage points, looking out to the horizon and back to the shore. This work continues my interest in feminist landscape photography, and draws inspiration from self-portrait works by Anne Zahalka and Tracey Moffatt. The material nature of Tyvek is designed to be durable, and these prints carry the marks of the weather on their surface, from their time installed on site.
