This artwork explores the ideas of mothers cutting their children a plate of fruit as a way to say, ‘I’m sorry’ after fighting or, ‘I’m proud of you’ after getting an A on a test. The artwork highlights fruits that my mother would often cut for me, oranges, grapefruits, kiwis and strawberries. Dandelions and peace lillies are also used to represent healing, forgiveness and hope. This act of cutting fruit is shown in Asian families specifically, where children will never catch their parents saying anything affectionate, and instead, acts of service are often the love language of Asian parents.
