The global struggle for dignity, justice, and the right to live freely defines the human condition. My Pro femina series deals with the fight against fundamentalism and dictatorship and the heavy price paid for these freedoms.
To illustrate this ongoing struggle, characterised by torture, forced confessions, rape, execution, and the murder of Iranian women, I painted a series of backdrops. To portray the beauty of resistance amidst brutality, I avoided using liquid blood. In ‘A warrior's adornment’, the woman's bare back is decorated with an intricate pattern of rhinestones, red glitter, and sequins, symbolising the gunshot wounds that Iran's regime has used as one of the ways to suppress protesters.
