My relationship with Rosalyn Boko and Tarna Driffen, who are related through kinship (Rosalyn is Tarna’s grandmother), began in 2013 when I worked at Tangentyere Artists Aboriginal Art Centre coordinating the studio, and where I first met Rosalyn’s mother, Margie Boko. Although Margie passed away in December 2017, Rosalyn and I vowed to continue our close and longstanding relationship. We are working towards an exhibition titled Cruising: a journey into culture, honouring Margie’s life, family and extended kin.
Tarna’s mother, Lena Driffen, is granddaughter to Margie, thus establishing a deep-rooted bond between two families. I, too, have been incorporated into this kinship as Margie’s daughter. This photograph emerges out of a dense sociality and my position within this network of related kin.
