‘The journey’ is part of the Iland series, a three-year exploration of the concept of homeland through photopoetry, intertwining photography and poetic expression to evoke profound emotions.
The Iland series redefines homeland as a dynamic force shaping personal identity beyond geographical boundaries. Drawing from my experiences of migrating from Greece and travelling, this project visualises a journey into a photopoetic space. Using symbolism, semiotics, and influences from automatism, surrealism, and abstraction, I have created images that unfold naturally. Inspired by Homer’s epic poem Odyssey and Constantine P Cavafy’s poem Ithaca, I explore themes of homecoming, personal odysseys, and the quest for belonging and transformation.
‘The journey’ features a bespoke laser-cut table supporting a leporello format of the Iland series images. The installation invites intimate viewer interaction. ‘The journey’ is a poetic odyssey, inviting viewers to examine their own connections to homeland through personal and interconnected narratives.
