On Phuong and I meeting in Vietnam, we realised we would both be studying at the same university in Australia. In February, on returning to Australia, Phuong became my first friend in Melbourne. We shared what we had experienced as international students. In May, Phuong moved in with me.
‘To the boy I love’ serves as a love letter, exploring the intimacy between two queer Asian individuals living under the same roof. The construct of love develops gradually throughout the time we live together. But the word ‘love’ has not been uttered by either of us.
We acknowledge that the future is obscure and that there are no guarantees. This series, therefore, will become an archive for the both of us. Though we do not know what the future holds, these moments in time are and always will be a testament to our love.
