‘The creation of Adam’ was made while I was an artist in residence in Tawain 2023, in collaboration with the indigenous Paiwan peoples of Taiwan.

Catalysed by Michelangelo’s ‘The creation of Adam’, this reinterpretation of the biblical creation myth questions who the creator is and who or what the creator has created. Here Adam is gifting the tattoo art of Samoa to God, Paiwan tattooist Cudjoy Patjidres, who is reviving the traditional hand-tapping tattoo culture of the Paiwan peoples. Bodies are living archives of eternities and art and divinity are intertwined.
