‘Ã luz final’ comprises digitised lumen prints, menstrual blood and ranunculi on kozo paper, digitised prior to burial on the 20 September 2023. The original lumen prints remain buried.
This triptych is part of the project The motherhood that wasn’t. Every lumen print in the series was exposed to natural UV light, buried and exhumed during my naturally occurring menstrual cycles from July 2022 until my last cycle in September 2023. Due to complications caused by endometriosis, my natural menstruation has since been disrupted.
As I grieve the loss of my fertility, these images become a testament to the ways the barren womb can still create new life. All along, I was unknowingly archiving my menstrual cycles, which endometriosis has taken away from me.
