Shawn and Tim met at Mardi Gras in 2011, got married in 2019 and became fathers via adoption in 2023. Greer joined their family because her birth parents felt they weren't ready to raise a child. They selected Tim and Shawn to be Greer’s parents because of their progressive values. Now, Shawn is ‘Daddy’ and Tim is ‘Dada’.

The title of this work refers to an incident that occurred at Cumberland City Council in Western Sydney wherein one of the Councillors persuaded the others to ban books about same sex parenting from the local council’s libraries. After a public outcry, including a petition with over 40,000 signatories, the ban was lifted.
