Artist statement: My work imagines a woman in the 1950s. She appears worldly, independent and successful, but she is living in a time when women’s choices and freedoms were not what they are today. In this era, many expectations were placed on women as to how they looked and dressed, and what their social roles were.

I was inspired by the beauty, elegance and grace of 1950s fashion, golden age movie stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly.
